Why Use Sulfate-Free Shampoo?

sulfate-free-shampoo Why Use Sulfate-Free Shampoo?Using sulfate-free shampoo has become more and more popular, used as a positive selling point by stylists and other merchants. That said, why sulfate-free products are better and what sulfate itself is isn’t always clear or explained. Though much can be easily researched nowadays thanks to Google, if you have any questions or concerns regarding a hair product, your local master stylist in Orlando would be happy to help you figure out what is best for you.

What is Sulfate?

Sulfate is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Sodium laureth Sulfate, with the former being cheaper and therefore more common. Both are what produce the bubbly lather we commonly associate with shampooing our hair.

It is this lather that actually cleans our scalp and gets rid of bothersome dirt and product buildup. Though sulfate-free shampoos are certainly capable of cleaning your hair, it is not as effective as sulfate. Because of this, those who are prone to dandruff or other issues may find using shampoos with less sulfate than regular shampoo useful.

“Why go sulfate-free, then?” Because sulfate is also found in laundry detergents and soaps. This isn’t inherently bad–hand wash, for example, lathers like sulfate shampoo–but prolonged use can dry out your hair and scalp. Sulfate is also a skin irritant, which is more apparent if one has sensitive skin. If your scalp feels dry and itchy after shampooing, sulfates may be to blame.

Sulfate-free shampoos are, in short, gentler, and is something your master stylist in Orlando will probably point out. Those who suffer from oily hair may find the drying properties of sulfate shampoo preferable, but it can actually over-strip your hair of its natural oils, and so encourage it to create more to compensate. Though everyone is different, it is generally suggested that you wash your hair around three times a week to prevent this.

Keratin for the Hair, Orlando: Another Reason to Go Sulfate-Free

Sulfate, in being a powerful cleanser, can chew through color and keratin treatments. This results in faded colors and keratin being washed out shortly after its applied – and, in turn, frustration and wasted money.

Coloring and keratin for the hair, Orlando are expensive and time-consuming treatments, so making them last is all the more important. Ideally, you are receiving these treatments from a master stylist in Orlando, which means they will encourage you to use sulfate-free shampoo, as well as recommend specific products to help keep your hair looking its best.
